Had such a wonderful time creating with new PBT Soloist, Jooyoung. ![]()
Spending time with these extraordinary dancers really lights me up. Connecting with another artist, tossing ideas around, experimenting, moving, playing and seeing what we can make together just makes me so happy! It’s taken me a while to really trust that feeling.
For a lot of my career, I made decisions with my brain. What makes sense? What should I be photographing? What does the market want? What am I supposed to be doing?
Somewhere along the way (pretty sure it was during the quiet time of the pandemic!), I started listening more to my heart and trusting my instincts. And that’s when things began to feel different. I felt more in tune with myself and with what makes me feel the most free and creative!
I never could have predicted that photographing movement and dancers would become such an important part of my creative life, but at the same time, it makes all the sense in the world. Movement has always been a part of who I am. I just had to let go of all the “shoulds” and keep following the things that make me feel alive!
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who are alive.”
– Howard Thurman
