Setting the Scene for Santa

In just 18 short days, Santa will make his first stop right here — in this very cozy little corner — to visit with some very lucky kiddos. Before the magic begins, I wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes peek, because creating this set last year for my very first Santa Experience was one of the most joyful and meaningful projects I’ve ever done.

Every single item in this scene has a story. As I gathered each piece, it felt like I was weaving together a tapestry of memories and meaning for myself and my clients:

🌲 The Backdrop — It comes from a company that makes the most realistic scenes. It hung in my studio for weeks last year, filling the space with festive feeling!

👑 The Chair — A dear friend passed this along when she moved to a smaller home. I always knew it was meant for something special… and doesn’t it look like it was made for Santa himself? That coat of arms makes it feel truly regal.

🎹 The Toy Piano — A little eBay treasure that actually works!

🐻 Family Heirlooms — The teddy bear under the piano belonged to Jesse’s grandparents, and the white ceramic cat lived in my childhood home. They make me smile every time I see them.

🕰️ The Clock & Brown Chair — Gifts from my mom-in-love. The clock especially tugs at my heart… it reminds me how quickly time passes. Not long ago, our daughters were the little ones waiting to tell Santa their wishes. (Cue the lump in my throat.)

📖 The “Nice Book” — A little secret between Santa and me: it’s actually a baby name book under a festive cover, so… everyone’s in the Nice Book. 🤫

☎️ Santa’s Phone — A magical vintage-style phone I found online. Of course, Santa uses it to keep in touch with the elves.

🐴 The Rocking Horse — A gift from from my friend Kelli Burns, once loved by our girls and now part of this new tradition.

☕ Hot Chocolate — Believe it or not, these are custom-made fake hot chocolates from an artist on eBay. Aren’t they perfect?

And then there are the stuffed animals — many of them once part of our own family — now joining in to spread the joy. Off to the side, there are even more surprises that come into play during the sessions: a globe, a little Christmas tree, ornaments to paint, books to read, and Santa’s sack of toys.

✨ A special thank you to fellow photographer Shari Lynn for sparking so many ideas, and of course to Pgh Santa for bringing the magic to life. ✨

If you’ve ever dreamed of a Santa experience that feels warm, personal, and full of wonder, this is it. ❤️
