The Glow That Words Can’t Hold

There is nothing quite like photographing a woman who is waiting for her baby to arrive. It’s not just about the growing belly — it’s about capturing a feeling that is almost impossible to put into words.

When I stand behind my camera and watch an expectant mother, I see so much more than anticipation. I see courage, tenderness, fierce protection, and a quiet, radiant hope. There is a glow — not just the cliché kind people talk about — but a deeper light that seems to come from knowing that life is changing forever, and you’re holding that change inside you.

When I was pregnant myself, I remember how surreal it felt to carry another heartbeat within my own body. I felt so responsible for this tiny person I hadn’t even met yet, and that sense of wonder never really left me. It changed the way I see mothers, including myself.

I know that for many women, there can be resistance to being photographed during this season. Our bodies change in ways that can feel strange or unfamiliar — not everyone feels like they “glow” every day. But I truly believe this is a time to be honored and celebrated. These pictures are not about looking perfect — they’re about remembering. Years from now, these images will be something you, your child, and your family will be so grateful to have. They’re a testament to the love and strength that brought a new life into the world.

My hope is that when I photograph women who are expecting, I can show a glimpse of what that feels like — that beautiful, impossible-to-define in-between space of waiting and becoming. I want these images to remind you, long after the baby is born, of how it felt to create a whole new life, and how strong and tender you were in that fleeting season.
