Musician Portraits

Capturing the Spirit of Musicianship Through the Lens

There’s something sacred about photographing musicians.

Maybe it’s because I live surrounded by them—my husband and daughters are musicians, and I sing in a choir. Music fills our home, our days, and our hearts. So when I photograph a musician, I’m not just documenting a moment. I’m witnessing the devotion, discipline, and deep emotional connection that’s so familiar in our family.

It’s not about a pose or a perfect smile. It’s about the pause between notes, the reverence for the instrument, the subtle shift when someone feels the music rather than just plays it. These are the moments I live for. My goal is to translate the soul of sound into visual poetry.

I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of movement, stillness, and emotion. I understand that artistry isn’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it’s quiet and tender, like the way a violinist cradles their instrument, or the meditative breath before the first note.

When a musician steps in front of my camera, I listen. Not just to the notes, but to the energy they bring, the story they carry, the music they embody. That’s what I try to capture: not just a picture, but a portrait of their artistry.

I also literally listen to their music on Spotify before they come if possible and keep it playing throughout the shoot!

If you’re a musician—from classical to rock and roll —I’d be honored to create images that reflect your passion, your practice, and your presence.
